The University of Hawaiʻi (UH) System Sexual Violence Prevention Project (SVPP) is funded by a grant from the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) and in collaboration with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) Women’s Center. The primary goal of SVPP is to develop permanent campus resources that addresses sexual violence prevention and victim services on all ten UH campuses. In Fall of 2007, the UHM Women’s Center began the process of establishing a Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Kapiolani Community College. In 2008, the project was extended to include Hawaiʻi Community College and Honolulu Community College.
For the purposes of this project, sexual violence prevention includes the prevention of sexual assault, dating violence and stalking (including cyber-stalking). Each Prevention Task Force develops information and education materials, policies, and procedures; conducts an assessment of needs and resources; and develops a sexual violence prevention and response plan to address sexual violence on their campus.
Each of the four campuses has sponsored various programs through the project. Past programs and events include: The Clothesline Project, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and Take Back the Night. More information on upcoming events for the Fall semester will be provided at a future date.
