"Vet 2 Vet" Mentorship Program

UHM has created the "Vet 2 Vet" Mentorship Program to promote a successful transition from the military to the academic environment. Faculty or staff members who volunteer for this informal mentoring program are former/current military personnel who serve as support systems to veterans on the transition to college.

"To Bear a Special Responsibility"

On April 26, 2011, an inaugural event was held at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa entitled "Responding to Student Diversity: Understanding Service Members and Veterans." State Representative Mark Takai (District 34 Aiea-Pearl City), a 12 year veteran in the Hawaii Army National Guard, attended the event and was the keynote speaker.

UH Mānoa, Veterans Affairs will pay tuition, fees for 15 military veterans

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Yellow Ribbon Program and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will grant 15 master's degree students at the Mānoa campus up to $5,000 per academic year, starting in the Fall 2011 semester, which begins August 22.

…Said Vice Chancellor for Students Francisco Hernandez, "We are proud to partner with a program that provides tuition relief to such deserving veterans and services members. This is the beginning of what will be our best effort to provide enhanced services and show our support to those women and men who have served or continue to serve our country."…
