The purpose of this orientation is to meet and interact with other students and faculty, learn about SOEST and what makes us special and participate in walking field trips to SOEST labs.

New international students

The orientation for incoming PhD students is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 4:00-6:00pm Hawaii time. The PhD chair and I hope to have an in-person orientation, but if some participants need to join remotely, we can plan for a hybrid (in-person and Zoom) orientation. Please let us know if you need to join remotely.

The Department of Anthropology is holding a 'Meet & Greet' for new incoming students (freshmen & transfer) from 10am to 10:50am at Dean Hall, Room 202. This is a wonderful opportunity to start your journey off right! Come and meet your academic advisor, Mark Oxley, the Department Chair, Dr. Eirik Saethre, and the Undergraduate Chair, Dr. Seth Quintus. During the event we will provide useful information on the anthropology program as well as provide opportunities to asked questions. The College of Social Sciences will orient new students and their families. The program begins with a scavenger hunt, guiding students to find important resources across campus. We will serve lunch, giving everyone an opportunity to meet the Dean and advisors. All new students will receive CSS branded swag. A lucky few will win a special gift.
